Most of you are aware that Swine Flu is assuming alarming prioportins the world over.Those familiar with the IPRs may be knowing that the Central Government can play a very active role in containing,preventing and curing the malady.It has enormous powers in reducing the price of the medicines.It can declare a state of national emergency or extreme health urgency.It can take over inventions awaiting patent grant apart from the patents already granted.It can grant compulsory licenses to any pharma company.It can supply the drugs free of cost or at a highly subsidized cost.all these steps can be taken under the Provisions of the Patents Act,1970.Are our representatives and policymakers listening?
